Frequently asked questions
Importing questions
What can I import?
A text-based PDF, a plain text file, pasted text, or our spreadsheet template saved as CSV. The questions need lettered answer options and a marked correct answer, either under each question or in an answer key at the end.
What about questions that aren't multiple choice, or that use a picture?
Pictures in a PDF, such as exhibits and diagrams, are imported and attached to the question they sit under. Drag-and-drop, hotspot and similar questions are kept as review-only cards: you see the question, then reveal its answer, which is often a picture. A PDF doesn't hold enough detail to make these interactive automatically, so they aren't part of scored exams yet.
Can I import an Excel file?
Not directly yet. Save the sheet as CSV from Excel or Google Sheets and import that. The downloadable template is already a CSV.
Does ExamYeti write questions from my notes?
No. ExamYeti isn't an AI question generator. It reads the questions that are already in your file and makes them interactive.
Why won't my scanned PDF import?
A scanned PDF is a picture of a page, so there's no text to read. If you can't select the words in your PDF viewer, it's a scan. Use a text-based copy, paste the text, or use the spreadsheet template.
Is there a size limit?
Large PDFs can be slow, or run out of memory, on a phone. If you have a long file, import it on a computer; you can still study on your phone afterwards.
Does it come with questions?
No. ExamYeti supplies no exam content and has no shared library. You study only what you upload.
Studying
How does the exam simulator work?
You pick the number of questions and the time limit. The exam runs against a countdown, and you get your score at the end. Past attempts are saved so you can track progress.
Can I fix a question that imported wrongly?
Yes, with the question editor on a paid plan. You can change the question, the answer options, the correct answer and the explanation.
Which browsers are supported?
Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers, tablets and phones. Nothing needs installing.
Accessibility
Can I practice with extra time?
Yes. When you set up a practice exam you can add 25%, 50% or double time, to match an accommodation you have for the real exam. You can also switch the time limit off.
Can questions be read aloud?
Yes. Flashcards and practice exams have a Read aloud button with a speed control. It uses the text-to-speech voices built into your browser, so nothing is installed and nothing is sent anywhere. The voices you hear depend on your device.
Does it work with a screen reader or the keyboard alone?
Questions are shown as real text, and the study screens can be used from the keyboard. Screen readers announce the time remaining at five minutes and at one minute. We haven't finished a full accessibility audit yet, so if something doesn't work for you, email support@examyeti.com.
How do I get extra time on the real exam?
That's decided by the certification vendor and its testing provider, not by us. Most have an accommodations request process that you complete before booking your exam.
Plans and billing
What's free?
1 file, imported in full, with the first 25 questions unlocked for flashcards and practice exams.
What do the paid plans cost?
Monthly is $19.99 a month. The 90-Day Pass is $44.99 once, with no renewal. Annual is $99 a year. All three unlock the same features.
Does the 90-Day Pass renew?
No. It's one payment. After 90 days your account returns to the free plan.
What happens to my files when my plan ends?
They're kept for 30 days, and upgrading again in that time restores everything. After that we delete all but 1 file: the one you studied most recently, unless you choose another. We email you when your plan ends and again 7 days before anything is deleted.
Privacy and accounts
Who can see my files?
Only you. Every file and question is tied to your account, and there's no way to browse other people's material.
How long do you keep my data?
For as long as you use your account. If an account has no active paid plan and nobody signs in for 6 months, we delete it and everything in it, after a warning email 30 days before. You can also delete a file, or ask us to delete your whole account, at any time.
How do I sign in?
With a Google, Microsoft or GitHub account, or with a six-digit code sent to your email. There are no passwords to remember.
What am I allowed to upload?
Material you have the right to use, such as practice questions from a book or course you bought, from your instructor, or that you wrote. Don't upload real exam questions that were leaked or shared in breach of a certification vendor's rules.
Still stuck?
